Import PST to Google Workspace – Methods & Best Practices
One of the biggest pain points when migrating to Google Workspace is importing PST files without losing data. I experienced corrupt PSTs and migration failures during the task. But now, I have found the most reliable solutions that will import PST to Google Workspace simultaneously.

How to Import PST to Google Workspace – Top 4 Methods
On May 14, 2025, Google announced an important change: The legacy Data Migration Service will stop supporting on-premises Exchange migrations after May 31, 2025. So, you have to switch to GWMME.
Google still provides three official paths to import PST to G Suite:
- GWMME (Google Workspace Migration for Microsoft Exchange) for Admin-driven, batch PST imports.
- GWMMO / GWSMO (Google Workspace Migration/Sync for Microsoft Outlook) for single-user PST import.
- Google Workspace Migrate for large migrations.
I tried all these approaches, and the steps that I followed are mentioned below to import PST to Google Workspace. But before, if you don’t export Office 365 mailbox to PST for the importing procedure.
First, follow these instructions to back up Outlook data in the PST format:
- Open Outlook and click File.
- Select Open & Export > Import/Export.
- Choose Export to a file and click Next.
- Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and click Next.
- Select the folder(s) to export.
- Click Next and choose the location to save the PST file.
- Set a name for the file and click Finish.
- Enter a password for the PST file for security and hit OK.
#Solution 1. Import PST to Google Workspace Using GWMMO
If you’re importing PST files for a single user or a small team, it is recommended to use GWMMO. It’s a free tool provided by Google for Windows systems. Here are the steps to import PST to G Suite:
- Open Google’s GWMMO download page.
- Download and install the tool’s .exe file on your system.
- Now, launch GWMMO and log in using the Google Workspace account to import data.
- Grant the required permissions.
- Browse and select the PST file from your local storage.
- Select Email, Contacts, and Calendar for migration. Or, you can also choose to import only specific folders.
- Click Migrate to import PST to Google Workspace.
Now, wait till the tool prompts migration is completed. Remember, this only works for small users’ data, and each message contains below 25 MB of data, including attachments, PDF, and other data. Otherwise, Gmail won’t allow you to import data if it exceeds the limits.

#Solution 2. Migrate PST to Google Workspace Via GWMME
If you’re dealing with multiple PST files from an Exchange server, then use GWMME. This tool allows batch migration for multiple users.
But, for bulk transition, you have to ensure some things:
- PSTs must not be password-protected or corrupted.
- Place PSTs in the expected folder structure: Top-level folder > user folders > PSTs.
Now, follow the steps to import PST to Google Workspace:
- Download GWMME from Google’s official site.
- Prepare a User List in CSV mapping PST files to user accounts.
- Configure Admin Access in Google Workspace.
- Run the Migration.
So, after the migration is completed, if needed, you can enable IMAP in Google Workspace to access data within Outlook, or services that support IMAP configuration.
#Solution 3. Google Workspace Migrate
This Google Workspace Migrate Tool will be used for enterprise-level migration, as it supports migrating PST to Google Workspace simultaneously:
- Install the Google Workspace Migrate appliance on a supported server.
- Sign in to the Google Workspace Migrate console as an administrator.
- Create a new migration project to import PST to Google Workspace.
- Add and configure the source connector.
- Map source users to target Google Workspace accounts.
- Configure migration settings such as data types, mail, calendar, contacts, and Drive.
- Run the migration to import PST to G Suite.
- When everything is migrated, close the project.
So, all these approaches are offered by Google and are free. But, these three tools come with some limitations like PST corruption, data loss, being stuck at 99%, file size issues, etc.
